Project overview
Visit Kurdistan is the official tourism brand for Kurdistan Region of Iraq. In 2022 when it was just an idea, I built a logo and simple brand deck for them within three days. In 2024, they came back with a different ask: to build the institutional brand platform for an entire region's tourism economy.

The situation
The problem was perception. Kurdistan faced active misconceptions by being grouped with Iraq, seen as unstable, unsafe, inaccessible. These misconceptions didn't just misrepresent the region; they prevented discovery. The cultural depth, the history, the landscapes, the hospitality went unexplored because the world wasn't looking.

The challenge
A brand that opens with "Kurdistan is safe" is framing itself through the problem it's trying to dissolve. Safety as a claim is a concession that the question is legitimate. Name the misconception and you reinforce it.
This understanding made the direction clear. The answer had to be identity-first: build something so grounded in what Kurdistan actually is, its ancient culture, its landscape, its history, its hospitality, that the misconceptions became irrelevant through substance, not argument.

The work
The work started with discovery. Before any visual decision was made, we went deep on questions: how should Kurdistan be perceived? What does the region actually stand for? What would Kurdish people recognize as genuinely their own? The brand foundation was built from those answers.
Three logo directions were explored, conceptualized, and presented to the client. One was the clear answer to the vision. From that direction, iteration began in earnest. Versions were made with micro-differences, tested, reviewed and compared meticulously until 26 logo versions had been reviewed before final selection.

Results
The brand entered active use following delivery in August 2024. On June 11, 2025, it was officially launched at a grand ceremony premiered by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
Since then, Visit Kurdistan has been in sustained, high-output use: festivals, concerts, cultural ceremonies, sports events, tournaments, tourism activities, bazaars, environmental campaigns, seasonal programming.
